David Medina, Kelly Pike, Scott Burns, Sean Flourney, and Teresa O’Conner ...until someone gets hurt
Artist Statement
A parent’s mantra: it’s all fun and games…until someone gets hurt. The home is the mantra’s locus; it is the site of fun, love, tension, anxiety and family games. Not just games of amusement but also those of negotiation. We negotiate with each other for space, privacy, tastes, goals, needs and TV channels. We are that collaborative family in heated negotiation: five artists bringing individual experiences to this domestic experiment. We are playing the game of asserting our desires and goals for this cramped space. We play nice and acquiesce, keeping both tension and wonder just below the surface.Keeping up appearances. Keeping up with the Joneses. Keeping it up longer. Keeping it together. Keeping everything to ourselves. Keep away. Keep out. Keep caring. Keep playing the games… until someone gets hurt.
