Jacinda Russell Dark Mass

May 3, 2002 – June 15, 2002 Cecily E. Horton Gallery

Jacinda Russell’s interest in the act of collecting stems from the artist’s attempt to understand the obsessive behavior of her great aunt Eleanor. These explorations culminated in a 1999installation characterized by heaps of bags, foils, and cigarette packs—objects similarly collected by her aunt. In this Lawndale exhibition, Russell continues her earlier investigations by presenting us with a series of photographs and found objects that illustrate how serious collecting can also easily turn into an uncontrollable obsession.
