Jason Makepeace Reconditioned

August 12, 2005 – September 10, 2005

Artist Statement

“Selective debris left along Houston’s streets and freeways are my subjects. These found objects are usually broken and left for trash. We normally pay no attention to these seemingly useless goods however I felt they had significance. The work evolved because I felt it was in everyone’s best interest that broken objects be mended and not left for dead. My obsessiveness and attention to detail could bring these found objects back. It might not be a functional rebirth, but it is definitely a formal renewal.

This body of work is about mending these damaged and forgotten possessions. It is about analyzing, documenting, mapping, collecting, reconstructing, and reconditioning each individual object I find. Starting as I gather the item and finishing when I have repaired the object to a point of formal originality.”
