Artist Statement

“Every neighborhood should have full access to fresh, healthy, local, affordable food every day through a variety of channels ranging from farmer’s markets to locally-owned small corner stores, supermarkets, and even their own homes.

Farming of the Future (Now is the Only Thing That is Real) is a concept for the easy production of healthy food anywhere in the world. By using mostly recycled materials the project seeks to work in ways that ensure resources are constantly replenished and renewed not depleted and damaged.

An organic garden is not a machine. It is a living system of balanced forces between, for example, predator and prey, and these forces are always in flux. Soil composition, air quality, water, birds, insects, and weeds are just a few of the forces that influence nature and the health of a garden. My role as a garden master is to work with these forces, encouraging the balance to shift in my favor, not dominating them with the goal of achieving perfection.

This project is a dynamic, living system of forces that work in balance with each other to produce delicious food.”
