Project StARTs Exhibition

May 21, 1994 – June 11, 1994

Project StARTs is a visual arts workshop designed to address gang prevention by providing students with professional sculpture and painting instruction after school. Classes are held at Jackson Middle School. The exhibition, organized by Candy Torres, project director and principal artist, with Elisa Alvarado, featured work by 22 students from Jackson Middle School, Reagan High School, Anson Jones Elementary and George I. Sanchez High School. The project is sponsored by Talento Bilingue of Houston and supported by the Cultural Arts Council of Houston through a grant for artist-initiated projects to benefit underserved inner-city residents and special constituencies.
