About the exhibitions
Taking Care: Ryan Crowley, Loc Huynh, Jamire Williams
O’Quinn Gallery
The artist’s studio should be a generative space, one meant for growth, abundance, and nourishment. While these spaces may not provide physical nourishment, they can offer metaphorical food for an artistic practice. Over these last six months, three artists who are part of Lawndale’s Artist Studio Program (ASP)—Ryan Crowley, Loc Huynh, and Jamire Williams—have taken care of their studio practice during a time when care is needed most. A time for self care and care for community health. It has been restorative to have a space dedicated to artistic making and practice and the fruits of these labors will be unveiled in the upcoming exhibition.

Angelica Raquel
Spirit Epoch
Cecily E. Horton Gallery
Born and raised in the border city of Laredo, TX, Angelica Raquel draws much of her inspiration from her upbringing and the culture she grew up in. Using narratives rooted in folklore, familial storytelling, and her personal experiences, Angelica investigates ideas of morality and the soul. Her use of animal imagery has a dual purpose of representing a personal loved one, herself, and the animal. Jacinto Jesús Cardona will contribute poetry to compliment the exhibit.

The Sankofa Project
Main Street Windows
Curated by Tierney L. Malone, The Sankofa Project is a multi-year examination of the historical events leading up to our current moment of social unrest and racial reckoning. Beginning with the people and stories that make up our own communities of Houston, this project aims to bring light to the events that have been censored or ignored in historical narratives in order to reinforce the racial oppression of Black Americans.
